Just around the corner from Canonbury Station, you'll find Vins patiently lying in wait with a stellar wine list and some accompanying tasty treats to draw you in. Wine bars can be an intimidating affair, but Vins go out of their way to eschew the snobbier side of things. For instance, instead of notifying you of a wine's ‘leathery mid-palette and tannic finish’, the menu focuses on short but sweet synopses of each bottle. Statements like ‘oozing minerality and freshness’ or ‘a pale, hazy, lip-smacker’ smoothly lulled us towards our chosen glasses. A nice touch for us Yellow Tail/Barefoot aficionados. The menu changes regularly so there’s no point recommending the fried taleggio sandwich, the hake with potted shrimps or the blueberry bakewell tart. Instead we will just say the food is gawjus. We really liked it. You should go.
