The Mountgrove Bothy
We’re big into places where the passion and knowledge of the owners radiates outwards, and Mountgrove Bothy is one such spot. It’s a cosy and intimate neighbourhood wine bar hidden away on an indistinct street in Highbury, where a relaxed vibe is paired with an unrivalled selection of rare wines. And we really mean that - if you love wine you need to come here and chat to Gareth, who'll take you on a tour from peppy orange tipples from Canterbury to full bodied Merlots from Croatia. You’ll find fairly affluent looking locals either on the romantic tip, tasting wines or catching up over small plates that are really worth sampling. The kitchen is a basic operation but that seems to just bring the best out of the chefs who create simple, delicious dishes: previous menu picks have featured a beautifully nutty spelt tagliatelle, lamb neck flatbread and dexter beef tartare. A swishy haunt to impress a mate, romance a date, or just enjoy a delicious glass on your ones.
