The Lock Tavern
We're going to level with you, sometimes we're not in the mood for organically sourced jackfruit and feta french-toast. Sometimes, all we want is a big, fat burger, served up with rough-cut chips and a big dollop of ketchup. When those urges strike, there are few better places to stock up on soul-food than The Lock Tavern. Plonked bang in the middle of Camden, it's a legendary live venue known for tiny, free for all, packed shows and one of the best pub-grub boozers going. Wrap your teeth around their cheese & bacon dirty burger before heading upstairs for a shirt-drenching mosh in the tiny performance space, or outside to their spacious roof garden.

The Punch Tavern
The Punch Tavern is one of those pubs that seems to be made for taking tourist friends to. It ticks all the 'Olde London' boxes with its dark wooden interior, etched mirrors, and old paintings dotted around... yet it still manages to retain its charm for Londoners. It wouldn't be an old pub without stodgy pies or fish and chips either, but here they're do them pretty well. The ales are good quality, and there's a choice of 45 gins - having to choose from anything less just won't do.
For pizza fiends with half a clean conscience, come lock those gnashers around one of Mamma Dough's lush sourdough pizzas, all carefully hand-rolled daily from Shipton Mill organic rye, wholemeal & white flour. When it comes down to toppings, it was the The Devil that did it for us - tomato, mozzarella, spianata, onions, nduja, dry chilli & plenty of olives. Vegetarian options are in abundance here and tasty rotating specials on offer too. If you're a real baller, you'll finish off with an affogato - ice cream drowned in a shot of espresso. Then you'll be feeling pretty zingy for your exit.
Cutty Sark Tavern
If it’s a "ye olde" pub your after, The Cutty Sark doesn’t mess around. This is what you called a Tavern. Yes, the food here bangs pretty hard, but we don’t want to waste too much time talking about that because this beautifully-preserved Georgian pub is like a time capsule from the 18th century and it’s not even very touristy. Score. Test your wits at the Cutty Pub Quiz on Wednesdays at 8pm.
MEAT Liquor - East Dulwich
** Opens 12th September ** Meat Liquor advise their customers to "come hungry and leave drunk". Whether you think that sounds great or desperately annoying, the quality of their burgers is undeniably good. This Dulwich outpost serves much the same as the rest of them with the likes of beef and chicken burgers, chicken wings and five variations of fries. On the drinks menu are all manner of cocktails, beers and shots plus dessert drinks like the White Russian shake and the Jäger float... that should sort you out. Veggies are not well catered for so maybe give it a miss if you're not much of a meat licker. Oh and it's open 24h on a Saturday!
