Taco Queen’s origin story is like a hipster Oliver! - a rags-to-riches tale where these tortilla-slingers rose from the ashes and into a prime spot on Rye Lane. Owners Lucy and Ryan, sick of their jobs in the music industry, decided to make their mutual love for Mexican food a full-time gig. Having no formal training, they starting popping up in places around Peckham with their Cali-inspired tacos in tow; soon, a space opened up on the Rye, and since then all the bright young things of Peckham have been flooding their pastel-pink space. And their popularity is deserved - while their tacos may not be traditional, they are damn delicious. Expect bright, tangy flavours that give veggies and meat equal play (their battered avocado taco is a banger). If you’re around for lunch, don’t sleep on their arepas - their juicy jackfruit offering is knee-slappingly delish. Wash it all down with some zingy mezcal cocktails and you’re living, baby.
