Though we did try and take a bite out of Fred, turns out he's not to be eaten, but you can dig into all the Asian-inspired pickles and ferments on the menu instead. Shoulda known. There's some tasty snacks to be had, including a jackfruit scotch egg with masala mayonnaise; and grilled octopus with harissa chickpeas, black tahini, pickled red onions and preserved lemon. You can't go far wrong with a beef shin and bone marrow rendang, especially when it's topped with pickled red chillies and crispy shallots. Frankly anything with crispy shallots is good in our eyes. Fred comes back into play with the drinks, as his namesake’s Preserver - with green and black peppercorn infused vodka, Aperol, suze, and preserved strawberry and rose petal wine - is summin' else.
