You won't find the designery interiors and fusion menus of Shoreditch's Vietnamese restaurants at this authentic Vietnamese cafe. But what you will find are steaming bowls of flagrant pho noodle soup and fresh rice bowls topped with grilled lemongrass pork. Food is served in a simple setting and due to it's popularity, it isn't rare to share your table with fellow pho slurpers.

This Vietnamese is very different from the spots you know along Kingsland Road. It may be a little more spenny but it’s a whole lot more spacious, dishes feel considered, and drinks are exciting. We plumped for Fritz-Kola and Saigon special beer - both mighty refreshing. Mama Pham is the head chef and matriarch. She comes up with new menu items, oversees marinades and just generally kills it while her son Robert sees to front of house. Hit up the reliable and warming pho or make your own summer rolls. Dip your rice paper in the warm water, lay out the sheet, fill it with all things pork, mint and coriander then wrap and roll. Were our rolls anywhere close to profesh looking? No. Did they taste fresh and summery once dipped in chilli sauce? Oh yes.
Salvation in Noodles
Different cultures have different solutions to sin... but in London, a trip to this Vietnamese joint should do it. Salvation in Noodles in North London is a popular spot for great noodles, Vietnamese fish cakes, and a host of local heroes like Dalston Cola. The menu is emblazoned with pictures of the Virgin Mary and other sin-redeeming imagery. We're not sure why, but instead of trying to figure it out, we recommend focusing on the food, which is bang on.
Bang Bang Canteen
A vietnamese restaurant packed with old film posters and graphic artwork? We're not sure of the connection, but the menu is so packed with Asian flavours that we don't care. The Beef Brisket Pho is a meaty marvel, and the Bang Spicy Wings have just the right amount of kick without leaving you gasping. They do bubble tea here that's not too shabby too. It's a good spot for a casual bite.
***Closed. Liam. 02/18*** Ok, you got our attention with that name. You got us to stay because of your damn good grub. This BYOB Vietnamese has a huge choice of traditional noodle soups made with everything from rare beef flank to minced crab, alongside stir fry recipes and curries. It's BYOB here, so you can keep the cost nice and low low low while still getting full and a little sloshed. That's a fine combo.
