Island Social Club: Nyamming 3
Founded by two Caribbean Londoners, Marie Mitchell and Joseph Pilgrim, Island Social Club is all about exploring British Caribbean culture. After a few successful supper clubs and pop ups they’ve set up shop in Haggerston for a year, with a killer combo of rum, rotis and cultural events. We kicked things off with a delightfully nostalgic rum punch. The perfect balance of overproof rum, orange, lime, allspice, grenadine and freshly grated nutmeg create a flavour so tropical that it shoots you right back to the Caribbean if you've been or makes you seriously consider the trip if you haven't. We followed up with some light and flaky rotis, sweet and sticky plantain, and beautifully spiced curries. Inspired by the French Islands, the 'Colombo de Poulet' was particularly comforting with plenty of coconutty goodness and a subtly fruity spice brought by chocho (Caribbean pears). This isn't frilly, restauranty food; this is hearty home cooking, made with plenty of island love.
