Dum Biryani House
Down some discreet steps in Soho hides Dum Biryani: a chic and colourful space with tasteful doses of opulence, serving tasty, tasty Indian dishes with a compulsory side of R&B and hip hop. It’s a cool, fresh take on oft-traditional Indian restaurants: where Kendrick Lamar and Anderson .Paak are on the speakers; comic book illustrations adorn the walls; and innovative twists fill the menu. The namesake Dums are large, fragrant biryanis (spiced with either meat, fish or veg), encased in a pastry crust and steamed for hours till tender. Once you crack that dome, you're straight into an aromatic, hearty pie. The small plates can’t be discounted though: try the Andhra prawn fry, shammi under (lamb and lentil patty in brioche bun) and slow cooked mutton. You'll find pleasing, artfully spiced bites. This is an immersive experience - where taste combines with setting for a memorable eat out. Watch out for decent cocktails and a delicious Sunday brunch too.
