Diogenes the Dog
Named after a cynical philosopher, Diogenes the Dog promises to help you lead a virtuous life, in accordance with nature... via coffee, pastries, snacks and quality wines. So this rather swish looking wine bar isn't what you'd expect to find in the backstreets a short walk from Elephant and Castle station, but gentrification rages strong in these parts and so we have it... a rather nice, relatively reasonably-priced coffee and wine bar. Owner Sunny Hodge tries to import as many wines as possible directly from producers, looking for unusual bottles, with a focus on lesser known regions and small suppliers. Grab an early morning cup of joe con cinnamon bun; or an evening sit in with your date over Italian cheese boards, cured meats or bread dipped in olive oil - yum, yum. With glasses priced between £5-14, there's some fair drinking to be had here.
