The El Pastor dynasty, now in their third location in a massive industrial-looking space in Coal Drops Yard, are flying dangerously close to the mini-chain territory. But after a boozy lunch filling our boots with tacos, tostadas, and frozen margaritas, we’re happy to report that they’ve managed to maintain the same fruity, smokey authenticity of their original Borough Market outpost. We kicked things off with a couple of oysters that came loaded with pickled jalapeños and a citrusy mezcal dressing - a real wake up call - before moving onto more meaty pursuits. The eponymous al pastor was all kinds of smokey and balanced beautifully with caramelised pineapple; whilst the tuna tostada with avocado was limed to perfection, but our favourite was the prawn taco with mojo de ajo, a fantastic mouthful (or two) of textures and zing. Everything is fruity but nothing is too sweet. And that goes for their frozen margz’ as well, which we’d say are compulsory.
