Growing Communities Farmers' Market
Wake up early this Saturday and take a stroll down to this sustainable farmer's market, right on the border of Dalston and Stokey. Every farmer at this market has been certified as either organic or bio-dynamic, which will be music to the ear of those with a healthy green conscience. Grab your weekly bulk of fruit and veggies here and not only will you enjoy the fresh taste of quality produce, but you will also help support small sustainable farms and farmers around London - it's an all-round win.
The brainchild of a scientist turned restaurateur whose PhD looked at the antioxidant properties of red wine - Rubedo is natural wine bar and restaurant like you've never seen. The guys are really passionate about wines here, so go for pure vinos and a Modern European menu including delights like the Deep-Fried Artichokes with Tarragon Mayonnaise or the Ink-Braised Cuttlefish with Grilled White Polenta and Sorrel.
Putting their own spin on Scottish scran are the guys at Escocesa. They master this by hi-jacking the best Scottish seafood on its way to Spain and serving it alongside some of the best Spanish produce, wines and sherries. With ex-Barrafina chefs behind the kitchen you can expect expertly cooked tapas plates with plenty of flare. We're loving the sound of the Pulpo a la Gallega (octopus, potato & paprika) and the Lochinver langoustines.
Haunt is nowhere near as spooky as it sounds - unless you're terrified by the slow takeover of Stoke Newington Road by charming, vegan-friendly dinner spots. These guys seem determined to bring hella tasty food to the meat-free masses of Dalston. BBQ pulled jackfruit; Seitan burgers with Sriracha and charred chilli; and aubergines, spiced up to the nines, are just some of the dishes that are both vegan friendly and gfaf (gluten free as fuck). Their plant-based crusade even extends to the cocktail menu where you can rest assured that your bevvy of choice won't conflict with your ethical life choices. They're open late pon de weekend for after hours party time, DJ sets, comedy nights, swing dancing, life drawing, yoga, and all the other trendy activities you can think of. Oh, and come for brunch Saturday or Sunday for your all-too-necessary detox.
