Make Me Up
Rachel Maclean’s garish, pastel artworks are having a bit of a moment right now - a show at Zabludowicz; work in the new Science Gallery; and now this screening at the ICA. Her dark, satirical worlds hold a saccharine mirror up to society and highlight the twisted normality of our warped gender and beauty ideals. Her latest film, Make Me Up, imagines the physical embodiments of Siri and Alexa in a hyperreal beauty clinic. It’s a trippy look at patriarchal art criticism and wild visual ride all round.
