Satirical Witch Hunt

Ah yes, your classic fairytale: girl is accused of being a witch, and then must choose to either be a witch and live a life of exile or else be turned into a goat and live a life of, well, being a goat. From debut director Rungano Nyoni (remember her name, we have a feeling this won't be the last time you hear it) this part-satirical, part-superstitious, biting, folksy, feminist tale tells the story of a young girl coming of age into Africa - and the sometimes literal, sometimes allegorical witch-hunt that goes along with that. Filmed in a dizzying frenzy, Nyoni captures the confusion and all-consuming feverishness of becoming a woman, specifically a Zambian woman living in a small town under strict patriarchal rule.
