The idea that women's bodies and images have been manipulated and weaponised in the media shouldn’t come as a huge newsflash to any of you. But the reach of this trend through history is still worthy of a head shake. This talk by the London Drawing Group and Big Art Herstory Project will delve through the history of patriarchal portrayals of women - from the media’s fixation on Hilary Clinton’s cough to Queen Elizabeth’s acceptance of her standing as a ‘weak and feeble woman’. The class will look at how medicinal and artistic records have vilified the ‘hysterical woman’.
