Fresh off its triumphant run at Edinburgh, Half Breed is a show all about the liminal, the in-between, the neither black nor white in a sea of alabaster. Written and starring Natasha Marshall, this is the semi-autobiographical account of her childhood as the only non-white person living in a small English village. Marshall plays the mixed race Jaz, who lives with her white grandmother and dreams of going to drama school. The play is a fluid exploration of racism's mundane fuckery - the way it seeps into the everyday with a casually-uttered 'Paki' or a pointed glance. Marshall moves expertly between spoken word and casual speech, anchoring the production with her fiery performance.
