***Closed*** In 100 years from now, when historians look for a club to accurately encapsulate nights out on the untamed Kingsland Road strip circa 2015, it’ll be Birthdays they land upon. Because this is a sweat-soaked Dalston institution - a bar and club space which is really all about the low-ceilinged basement. Here all manner of shit has gone down over the years; all number of marbles lost; all kinds of budding d-floor romances started. It’s played host to many a riotous show - from JME to Mac De Marco via The Cribs, Skepta and Deafhaven. Frankly if you haven't played Birthdays, you need to be asking questions of your booking manager. It's not for everyone but if you feel the need for a cramped, bustling sweat-box where you can shake it and lose all those pesky inhibitions, this is the one. Entry to the upstairs bar is free, but the basement is ticketed.
Mulletover Anti Valentines
If your idea of celebrating Valentine's Day as a singleton consisted solely of sobbing into a mint Viennetta on your sofa while 'Nothing Compares 2 U' plays on repeat, then all is not doomed just yet. Giving a big two fingers to the year's loneliest holiday are Mulletover who head to East Bloc for their annual anti-Valentine's party. Spanning eight hours of house, disco and music to get off with strangers, so avoid the overpriced eateries and wanky bars this Valentine's and go get Mulleted instead.
As one of London's favourite pastimes alongside paying £5 for a pint of warm beer and queuing all night for the latest novelty eating experience, Tief return for their long-running residency at Corsica with a richly diverse roster of DJs and live acts. Rush Hour Records' Young Marco joins cosmic-disco enthusiast Tornado Wallace, NTS Radio's Anu and an all-night long set from the imitable Mr Ties who will be hosting the sweat den that is room 2. Scenes of near-naked bouts of euphoria come as standard.
