This touching documentary about the iconic Rival Theatre - the first club in Rio de Janeiro to allow men to dress as women on stage in the 60s - follows the granddaughter of the original owner as she interviews the now-ageing drag queens that she grew up around. Using archival footage and talking-head-style interviews, the film explores how these radical performances paved the way for a more progressive Brazil during a time of a conservative military dictatorship. It’s both visually and emotionally beautiful and showing as part of Rich Mix’s Cinema of Brazil - Female Perspectives Festival.
